Today, Wednesday 4 November 2026, is International Stress Awareness Day. The CWU Greater Mersey Amal Branch is marking it with a campaign under the banner "Greater awareness, healthier workplaces, brighter tomorrows."
The branch says employees continue to face change, workload pressures and the demands of balancing work and home life. Its message is that taking care of your wellbeing is not a sign of weakness but a sign of strength, and that while work can be demanding, a healthier tomorrow is possible.
Four ways to act
- Recognise the signs: stress can affect anyone.
- Talk: a conversation can make a difference.
- Take care: make time for what helps you feel good.
- Support each other: a kinder workplace is a stronger workplace.
Stress affects people differently
The branch stresses that stress doesn't affect everyone in the same way. Disability, caring responsibilities, long-term health conditions, neurodiversity, menopause, bereavement and other life circumstances can all influence how workplace pressures are experienced.
Where to get support
Members with concerns about stress, wellbeing, dignity at work, bullying, discrimination, reasonable adjustments or workplace pressures can contact:
- their local CWU Industrial Relations Representative
- their local CWU Health & Safety Representative
- Dave Roberts, Branch Equality Officer, CWU Greater Mersey Amal Branch
Where specialist support is needed, colleagues can be signposted to trained Mental Health First Aiders, workplace wellbeing services and external support organisations.

The branch's message to members is simple: looking after yourself helps you look after others.
